Margan Chardonnay 2012

A new generation of winemaking families are establishing quality benchmarks for the production of Hunter Valley wine. Established in 1997, the Margan brand is part of this new wave. Hunter born and proud of their regional identity, the wines of Andrew Margan reflect the unique terroir of the Hunter and the winemaking background of their maker.

Margan Hunter Valley Wines has over 320 acres of its own vineyards and a state of the art winery, all located in the beautiful sub-region of Broke Fordwich in the Lower Hunter Valley.

Margan Wines. Hunter Valley Wine

The grapes for this wine were picked from Margan’s 40 year old vines grown in the volcanic soil of the ancient Fordwich Sill. These low yielding mature vines produce ripe, concentrated fruit which results in a wine with excellent regional and varietal characters.

The 2012 vintage produced grapes with fine flavour and acid. To achieve subtle oak integration, this wine was partially matured in new French barriques for 6 months for added complexity and richness.

The 2012 Chardonnay is gold green in colour and exhibits a complex bouquet of grapefruit and melon with hints of well-integrated subtle nutty oak aromas. The palate is textured and offers an attractive mouth feel with great structure, richness and balance. It is beautifully balanced with a long, lingering finish. Enjoy as a young wine and over the next 3 -5 years with careful cellaring.
