First Creek Wines

The 2011 First Creek Shiraz is a classical example of Hunter Valley Shiraz from a cooler vintage – medium weight, beautifully pure, fresh and appealing with an uplift of smoky, spicy complexity from seamless integration of quality oak. In time this wine will develop layers of leathery, dusty complexity.

The must was cold soaked for 36 hours before fermentation in open top fermenters, using neutral yeast. The ferment was plunged 4 times a day at the height of ferment to extract delicate fruit tannins and vibrant colour. Pressed to new and older oak hogsheads for 9 months oak maturation.

Bright crimson red, medium depth, the wine has a fresh and appealing nose of dark berries, black pepper and spice backed by stylish smoky, cedary oak.

A medium bodied wine with soft and juicy berry fruit characters on a medium weight, classically lithe palate. Good fruit concentration yet elegant, with sweet mulberry and blackberry fruits, spice and fine tannins providing a long finish.
